How it works

How medical weight loss works in Austin

Three steps, in a fixed order, and the order is the point. Eligibility is established before a consultation is booked, and suitability is decided before anything is prescribed. Nobody sells you a product and works backwards from there.

  • Free eligibility check, no card
  • Licensed clinician makes the decision
  • Reviews on a written schedule

Step one

The free eligibility check, and what it is for

It is a short set of questions: height, weight, the conditions you have been diagnosed with, and what you currently take. It costs nothing and there is no card involved.

What it produces is not a prescription and not a diagnosis. It is an answer to one question: is booking a consultation likely to be worth your time and money? For some people the honest answer is no, and getting that answer for free is better than paying to hear it. There is more in Free assessment, Do I qualify and BMI requirements.

The three steps

From assessment to medication, in order

  1. Free eligibility check

Two minutes, no card. It establishes whether the thresholds are met and whether anything in your history needs a closer look.

  2. Consultation with a clinician

A proper appointment where history, medications and goals are gone through, and suitability is actually decided.

  3. Prescription and starting dose

If a GLP-1 fits, it is prescribed at the lowest dose with the step-up schedule written out before you begin.

  4. Scheduled reviews

Progress, tolerance and dose reviewed at set points. This is the part that separates a program from a prescription.

After you start

What ongoing weight management actually involves

Reviews are not a formality. They decide whether the dose moves up, holds, or comes back down, and they are where side effects get caught before they become reasons to quit.

Between appointments you can raise something rather than waiting. Most of what goes wrong on a GLP-1 is fixable early and miserable if left for a month. Common side effects covers the next part, alongside Dosing and titration and What to expect.

Common questions

How it works: your questions

Timing, what the check involves, and what happens if you are not suitable.

The eligibility check takes about two minutes. A consultation is usually available within a few days. If treatment is appropriate, a prescription follows that appointment rather than weeks later.
You are told so and told why, which is a real outcome rather than a failed sale. Depending on the reason, nutrition support and monitoring may still be worth doing, and a clinician will be honest about what that alone tends to achieve.
No. Appointments are virtual, which is how patients across Austin, Round Rock and the surrounding area are seen. Medication is dispensed through a pharmacy.
A licensed clinician, after reviewing your history in a consultation. The eligibility check screens; it does not prescribe and it does not decide.
Yes. It is worth doing that with a clinician rather than simply stopping, because appetite returns and planning for that is part of the treatment. The guide on stopping covers what is known.

The order made sense. Check, then a proper appointment, then a prescription. I had expected it to be the other way round given how these things are usually sold.

Everything from home, including the follow-ups. The only trip was to the pharmacy.

Slower than the online-only places. Also the only one that read my medication list properly, so I will take the extra few days.

Knowing the review dates in advance kept me on it. I would have drifted otherwise.
